Recently I rewatched one of my childhood favourites, Todd Holland‘s The Wizard. To make things clear – yes, this movie can be basically called one big commercial for Nintendo. Normally, I am not a fan of that kind of filmmaking. Also, it clearly tries to ride on the wave of success of Rain Man. But in this particular case I don’t mind any of that. It’s a fun movie that captures well the atmosphere of the last years of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s. It’s a movie with lots of problems, especially concerning the script – but I don’t care: it’s still a great fun and for us who still like retro games it’s a really big nostalghia thing, probably the main reason of my readiness to forgive its many flaws.
